Sunny Hill
Sunny Hill grew up in the Pacific Northwest and has been working with clay for more than five years. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree and also does visual art, music, dance, and creativity coaching.
“I like to think of other disciplines as artistic cross-training. My plein-air painting hones my eye for color, my movement practice translates into my quest for finding vase forms that defy gravity. Circles, nature, silence, and fluidity inspire me.
I am deeply moved through this process of making pots out of clay. I find a more grounded, simple, and honest way of being.
I show up in my whole self and the clay naturally shows up with its unique properties and viscosity, and on this day under these atmospheric conditions, we have a conversation. Or a negotiation, or an argument, or a dance. Then, that happens five more times as a piece moves from being created to being decorated, bisque-fired, glazed, and glaze-fired to cone 10 in a reduction atmosphere. By the time the process is complete, a whole relationship has passed between you.”
